Fundraising with Visual Branding
The term “brand” is often associated with for-profit businesses and is not typically linked to educational institutions.
However, a school seal, emblem, insignia, or coat of arms is part of a school’s brand identity.
These symbols visually represent the school’s history, mission, philosophy, and academic values. Many of them carry traditional meanings that date back to the school’s founding.
A school seal is a symbol that instills unity and serves as the foundation for camaraderie, spirit, and pride among students, prospective students, alumni, faculty, and the entire community.
Fine art visual branding evokes an awareness of tradition and inspires an emotional connection that permanently motivates giving.
According to Sarah Durham, a long-time nonprofit consultant, “Brandraising” is a specific fundraising strategy that uses brand awareness.
“Spotlight” Ceramic Tile School Seals
University of Pennsylvania, School of Social Policy & Practice

This is our fine art version of the Penn seal. We placed the seal amid a border of ivy leaves. It illustrates that Penn is an Ivy League school, and ivy adorns the walls all over campus.
Our ceramic tile version of the seal has been used in donor walls, donor panels, donor plaques, gifts and awards.

Capital University, Columbus OH
An exterior Alumni donor wall was created for a new, highly visible sports and fitness center.

The entire installation includes four arches that showcase college history and culture.
The School Seal and the Lutheran Seal are featured here.

The goal was $11 million, $13 million was raised. Over $50,000 additional funds were raised durning the unveiling at Homecoming!

The panels are huge and are lit up at night, they function as a subtle billboard.
Twenty-five years later, people still call and ask how to get on the wall.
